Public transport in Innsbruck comes in the form of both buses and trams, with the majority being operated by Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe and managed by Verkehrsverbund Tirol. The bus and tram networks allow you to easily travel to your destination around Innsbruck with little expenditure.
The train transport in Austria is run by Österreichische Bundesbahnen, OEBB and allows visitors to travel to destinations all over the country, and beyond. The train station in Innsbruck is just a 15-minute walk from the city centre and can be reached via the Maria Theresien Strasse.

Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport is the biggest airport within the Austrian state of Tyrol and provides a series of regional flights, to and from destinations around the Alps, along with some daily international flights. Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester and London Gatwick Airport are all connected by the budget airline easyJet, while Finland, Germany and Russia are linked by Finnair, Welcome Air and Austrian Airlines respectively. Buses (Line F) are available to transport passengers into Innsbruck city centre, travelling around four times an hour, and twice-hourly on Sundays.

Renting a car is a great way to travel around Innsbruck, with the A12 (east) and adjacent Highway 171 (west) being the main roads. Travellers planning to travel northwards and into Germany should use Highway 177. Heading in the opposite direction, south from Innsbruck, the A13 motorway runs through the Brenner Pass before ultimately reaching Italy, heading past the Europabrücke (Europe Bridge) along the way. Highway 182 follows a similar road and is toll-free.

Innsbruck Travel and Transport: Travel by Bus, Tram and Coach - Innsbruck, Austria, AT
The recently updated tram network offers a particularly cheap and convenient way to travel around central Innsbruck, and also to some villages within the Stubaital Valley. Always popular are the TS Sightseer buses, which travel to all of the main attractions, including the Alpenzoo (Alpine Zoo). The board directly outside of the railway station lists all of the current long-distance bus transport, or alternatively, the tourist counter within the station will be happy to help with bus enquiries.

Although Innsbruck is a relatively small Austrian city, it offers excellent rail connections to cities throughout Tyrol and beyond. The city's main railway station is known as the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof and is easy to find, being situated on the easterly Südtiroler Platz. Railway transport travels daily to destinations such as Bregenz (just under three hours), Munich (two hours), Salzburg (two hours), Verona (three and a half hours) and Kitzbühel (one and a quarter hours). Those heading to Vienna will need to travel via Linz and Salzburg. Innsbruck also boasts new rail transport, with suburban 'Inntal S-Bahn' trains travelling between Telfs and Pfaffenhofen.
